Two powerful shapeshifters struggling to right a world gone wrong and fall in love on the way.
Kayla breathed deeply of the tangy salt air. Feeling its' coolness against her legs as her skirt swished around her knees. Her heels echoing off the sidewalk were barely heard amongst the summer crowds. As teenagers, families, and even old couples walked from shop to shop. Kids ran around weaving in and out between their parents and siblings. Their squeals of delight making her smile all the while her heart was breaking. She kept forging ahead moving out of the way of the many couples holding hands, hugging, and the many kisses they shared. She felt her breath hitch in her throat and she tried to calm her erratic heartbeat. Her legs moving faster carrying her away from the crowds towards the end of the boardwalk where no one was as the businesses had already closed for the evening. She decided to cut down the alley on her way home. Once she broke out of sight, she leaned against the cool brick wall of a building. Taking deep breaths, she thought her heart would beat out of her chest with every breath. She needed to get control. She could do this, the sight of couples and children shouldn't affect her so badly. But no matter how much she tried to talk herself out of her panic she could not. Her dream of one day being one of those couples strolling along holding hands and then later on corralling young children with her husband had shattered just a year prior.
And to add further injury to my slightly bruised ego. Not completely since I figured there's a good margin of error to figure in. My newest submission currently titled Love Untried has gotten one rating of Lousy.
A man of considerable honor is tested as the woman he loves finally comes home. Bringing her fiancee with her. Does he speak up or forever hold his peace....
Stalking to the barn, Katy knew she had to speak with Connor. His rudeness earlier when she had announced her engagement to Brian was unacceptable. She knew him well enough to know that something about it had bothered him. He was a very quiet man, he had always been the reserved one of their little group. While his brother and her had been the wild, loud, and adventurous ones. They would always conspire together, thinking of the next big dare for each other. Eric would dare her to climb the tallest tree on the ranch. Connor would stand there telling them they shouldn't and quietly worry as she climbed the oak tree in the west pasture. Then later on without saying a word his eyes would tell her he had told her so as she was rushed to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder for having fallen from that same tree.
Any comments/critiques would be greatly appreciated. I've had a friend or two read my work objectively and have received positive feedback at least for Dark and Dangerous. Love Untried has not been put on the table for review nearly as much as Dark and Dangerous.
